After delays, design changes and other interruptions that have slowed construction on the new community center in Bahama Village, the project is moving toward a final design approval by city officials.
The Key West Planning Board and cityâs Tree Commission have signed off on the plans, which call for a 9,500-square-foot, $4-million building located next to the Douglass Gym on Olivia Street. The Historic Architectural Review Commission is scheduled to take a last look at the design at its Wednesday, April 28, meeting. If HARC members approve the design, it goes to the Key West City Commission for a final approval.

Ardmore High School and Douglass High School alumni are being challenged to raise money and establish an endowment fund for curricular and extracurricular activities. The Ardmore $50K for 50 Years initiative launched Thursday with the goal of raising $1,000 from each of the graduating classes between 1964 and 2014.
“It is important for our current students and teachers to know and learn about the history of excellence in Ardmore in the various organization,” said ACS Fine Arts Director Chauvin Aaron, who is also a member of the Ardmore High School class of 2003.
“This will strengthen our community and financial support needed to build and sustain top tier organizations,” he said in a letter of Ardmore alumni.
