Dickinson County churches now can return to full capacity after the Dickinson County Commission exempted religious institutions and organizations from the mass gathering requirements included in the recent public health order approved last week.
Commissioners approved the amendment to Health Order DK012821 Thursday morning during their regular meeting. The change went into effect at midnight today (Friday).
The exemption was approved in response to a letter from the Kansas Justice Institute (KJI) in Overland Park that stated the restrictions on gathering sizes were an âarbitrary and unconstitutional impediment to the free exercise of religion.âÂ
County Administrator Brad Homman said he learned of the organizationâs concerns late last week from County Counselor Doug Thompson.
Homeowners sue city of Astoria over historic repairs
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) The owners of a historic house have sued the city of Astoria to force the approval of window replacements over the objections of the Lower Columbia Preservation Society.
Thomas and Priscilla Levy retired, bought the house in August and moved to the small city on the Columbia River and near the Pacific Ocean from Portland, The Astorian reported.
The couple applied in September to replace 19 white pine window frames with Fibrex, a composite of reclaimed wood fiber and thermoplastic polymer. Thomas Levy argued the old windows were beyond repair, with black mold and deterioration.
