Once again state delays release of clean-energy costs

Once again, the state is delaying release of an analysis of what it will cost consumers and businesses to transition to a clean-energy economy, a move many fear may spike increases in utility bills. The analysis, originally intended to be part of a revised Energy Master Plan adopted early this year, never made it into the final version of that plan, which was supposed to be done in the first quarter of 2020. That didn’t happen, and now officials are blaming the COVID-19 pandemic for the latest delay.

Towhey A liquid natural gas facility near Philadelphia got the go-ahead from a federal agency, resulting in a big thumbs-down from some very famous environmental activists. Subscribe The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) recently approved a construction permit for the Gibbstown Logistics Center in Gloucester County, NJ, which will be capable of handling exports of liquified natural gas. The project from New Fortress Energy involves transporting the gas from the Marcellus Shale across Pennsylvania to the terminal using 100-car trains that activists have called bomb trains. Pennsylvania State Sen. Katie Muth, who represents Philadelphia s suburbs, likened the trains to the energy of the Hiroshima bomb in a tweet opposing the project.

More offshore-wind farms proposed for NJ coastline

Two offshore wind developers have submitted bids to build wind farms off the New Jersey coast in the second solicitation offered by the state, which is seeking to triple the capacity of electricity generated from the technology. Ørsted, the winner of the first solicitation back in 2019, is once again seeking to build additional offshore wind capacity in southern New Jersey, although the company has not disclosed details of the latest project. The Danish company is already developing a 1,100-megawatt wind farm located 15 miles off Atlantic City.
