WHMI 93 5 Local News : Preliminary Report Released In Fatal Plane Crash

January 30, 2021 By Jon King / jking@whmi.com A preliminary report has been released about a plane crash earlier this month in Lyon Township that killed a family of three. The single-engine Piper PA-24 piloted by 60-year-old David Compo crashed January 2nd into a home on Dakota Drive in the Orchards of Lyon subdivision – about a half mile from New Hudson Airport. Compo, his 55-year-old wife Michele and their 18-year-old son Dawson were all killed on impact. The flight originated in Canton, Georgia, where the family had been visiting with family for the holidays. Five occupants of the home were able to escape.

NTSB: Pilot asked about ice before fatal crash

Experienced pilot and Oakland County businessman David Compo did not obtain an official weather briefing or file a flight plan for the final, fatal personal flight he, his wife and their son took Jan. 2. A preliminary report released last week by the National Transportation Safety Board highlighted some oddities prior to Compo’s small plane crashing into a Lyon Township home, killing the Compo family and inflaming the other family’s residence. Aviation experts tend to recommend the use of weather briefings and flight plans, according to Internet research. The NTSB report details the last hour of the Compo family’s in-flight travels from Canton, Georgia.

Edition 24: News from the Adjudicator

Welcome from the Groceries Code Adjudicator As the GCA, I am here to support suppliers who experience issues related to the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (Code) with their designated retailers. I have the power and authority as the independent regulator to effect change. But I must know what is happening; I cannot act if suppliers do not tell me. A major focus for me in these early days has been to develop ways to increase suppliers’ trust that they can raise issues with me and the retailers’ Code Compliance Officers (CCOs) in total confidence that their information will be treated confidentially. I want transparency to help dispel the fear of retaliation.
