Buhari Donates 22 Cows to Security Agencies in Katsina

Deji Elumoye in Abuja President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday concluded an eight-day working visit to his home state, Katsina, with the donation of 22 cows to serving military personnel in the state before returning to Abuja. Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a release, disclosed that the President before departing Katsina Friday donated 22 cows to military officers serving in Katsina and Daura areas of Katsina State. He gave a breakdown of the beneficiaries of the cows to include five cows each to the Brigade and Air Force bases in Katsina, the state capital and five each to the Battalion and the Air Force base in Daura while the soldiers on guard duty at the President’s residence in Daura were given two cows.

Remember the needy, Buhari tells privileged Nigerians, contractors

Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in Daura, Katsina State, urged businessmen, contractors and other privileged Nigerians who are beneficiaries of government’s patronage to always engage in Corporate Social Responsibility instead of seeking to favour individuals with gifts. President Buhari, who visited the Emir of Daura, Dr. Umar Faruk Umar, at his palace, said pointedly, “I don’t want tour cheque. Go and assist our communities” instead of trying to return kickbacks to public officers, including his office. He added: “We don’t want cheques from anyone or organisation as returns or influence of any kind. Let them remember their Corporate Social Responsibilities,” he added.

Is the President Aware that Time is Going?

PENDULUM BY DELE MOMODU Fellow Nigerians, I sometimes wonder what the President and his acolytes are thinking. Are they aware they have less than two years to hand over power or they have other plans hidden from the rest of us? If not, why are they busy fighting imaginary enemies and at the same time pampering real enemies? And doing so on many fronts too? I read somewhere that a good General never fights on many fronts, simultaneously! Ask the Germans who discovered this folly to their utmost amazement and defeat during World War II. Sadly, what I’m seeing with Major General Muhammadu Buhari is different, as the General seems to have forgotten this basic lesson of military strategy. He has too many battles on his hands, and it is obvious his troops are already overstretched and battle weary. They, and their General, deserve our pity. Or maybe time will prove us wrong, which I doubt.

How govts, others prioritise entertainment over education contests

Awkward educational awards Some best graduating students in Nigerian universities have been rewarded with some bizarre items, ranging from a tuber of yam, trophies, plaques, and as low as N200. A photograph of a best graduating student from the Chukwuemeka Odunegwu Ojhukwu University (COOU) with a tuber of yam and a chicken as rewards for his achievement captures the treatment meted to Nigeria’s future leaders. There are many reported cases of awards given to best graduating students, including Bamisaye Tosin, who got N200 as the best student of the Department of Civil Engineering in the Ekiti State University (EKSU).
