Amid mounting national concern about gun violence in America, authorities in Louisiana say they were called to the scene of a 12-year-old’s birthday party on Saturday where six people were shot following an argument.
Authorities were called to a neighbourhood in LaPlace, located just west of New Orleans, around 8:30pm Saturday after a report of gunfire, the St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Sheriff s deputies in LaPlace, Louisiana are investigating a shooting at a birthday party that left six people wounded.
The shooting happened Saturday night in LaPlace â a town located about 30 miles west of New Orleans â according to a Facebook post from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff s Office.
The party being held for a 12-year-old child, the sheriff s office said, in the 600 block of Golfview Drive.
Deputies say there were six people shot at around 8:30 p.m. local time when a verbal argument happened during the party. No one has died, deputies say, and no one has been arrested.

A shooting at a 12-year-old s birthday party in LaPlace wounded nine teenagers Saturday, authorities said. Despite more than 60 people being in attendance, investigators say nobody has come forward with information about who was involved.
The shooting was reported around 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Golfview Drive, near where the road crosses Laffitte Street.
… A neighbor who saw paramedics take the victims to the hospital said all the victims were children, celebrating a birthday party in a garage nearby.
Rashad Bolden lives two doors down from where the shooting took place, and he told WWLTV’s Paul Dudley he was home when the shooting happened Saturday night. …
“Everybody I saw taken to the ambulance they were all kids,” Bolden said. “I looked out my window and saw a whole bunch of people scurrying, so I came outside.”
Bolden said he believes the shooter was also a child.
“For someone to just shoot into the garage full of kids, that’s kind of heartless,” Bolden said. “You want to call it heartless, but you know they are not old enough to know what heartless is.”
