RDPR Minister to launch programme tomorrow In a bid to offer solution to drinking water problems, the State government plans to rejuvenate local tanks in the villages of Dharwad district under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan with focus on water conservation. Speaking to presspersons in Dharwad on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Nitesh Patil and Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat B. Susheela said that the flagship water conservation programme of the Union government will be launched in the State from Hubballi. The focus will be on resolving potable water crisis and also provide water for farm activities, they said.

Eshwarappa on Wednesday said that the ambitious Jal Shakti Abhiyan-Catch the Rain mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launched in Hubballi on Friday. The abhiyan proposes to rejuvenate water bodies across the State in 100 days before the onset of monsoon. Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Eshwarappa said that Padmashri award-winning social worker Mahesh Sharma will launch the abhiyan in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar. The Prime Minister launched the programme on March 22 and zilla panchayats and district administrations across the State have commenced work.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, started this campaign on World Water Day and said that India’s Aatm-Nirbhar is dependent on water resources and water connectivity. Our ancestors left water for us, now it is our responsibility to conserve water for generations to come. Most of the rainwater flows off in India. The more rainwater we save, the less will be our dependence on groundwater. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that on the call of the Prime Minister, we should make every effort to collect rainwater.
