UNISON Scotland has urged the Scottish government for an urgent meeting to clarify which workers are deemed essential during the national lockdown. The union says that confusion around the matter is still causing undue stress for workers despite its repeated calls for clear definitions on key-worker status. The union also urged the government to adopt a “whole school” approach to testing and vaccination, and to clarify what the role of school support staff will be while children are learning remotely.  Unison Scotland head of local government Johanna Baxter said that some areas have recorded an increase of up to 60 per cent in the number of people applying for key-worker status in order to send their children to school.
