Suspected gunmen have killed eight persons during an attack on a mining site at Shawalan Kuru in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state.
The attack, which was carried out on Friday evening, has thrown the community into mourning.
The corpses have been handed over to the relatives of the deceased.
Reacting to the killings, Governor Simon Lalong in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Macham, on Saturday in Jos described the incident as an attempt to destabilise the state.
He said the act by the criminals was to create fear in the state saying that government would not condone such attacks on innocent people.

Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, has expressed sadness over an attack on a mining site in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of the state which left eight people dead.
It would be recalled that the miners were ambushed and shot dead while others sustained fatal injuries at about 7:00pm on Friday at a mining site behind Government Science School, Kuru.
Dalyop Mwantiri, whose organization, ECCVN, is working with troubled communities in the state named those killed as Talatu Sunday, Jumai Useini, Davou Pwol, Gyang Nyam, Gabriel Nuhu, Nvou Dung, Mrs. Dung Monday and Mrs. Shabang.
Gunmen have killed eight miners at a mining site of Cabitex company in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims, comprising five women and three men were attacked by suspected herdsmen on Saturday night, with several others sustaining injuries.
Secretary-General of Kuru Development Association, Chapo Daniel condemned the incident, describing it as a heavy loss to the community considering that the victims went for their legitimate business and were ambushed by the assailants after the day’s business activities.
Reacting to the attack via a statement, Governor Simon Lalong, asked security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book.
