Warning for Dundee players ahead of Queen of the South trip as boss James McPake admits Stark s Park scoreline could impact his plans at Palmerston
© SNS Group Dundee boss James McPake has warned his players not to expect Queen of the South to take their foot off the gas for the Championship’s final game. The Doonhamers are safe from relegation but also can’t reach the play-off places while the Dark Blues need three points to pip Raith Rovers to second place. To achieve that, a victory for champions Hearts is required at Stark’s Park – a scoreline the Dundee coaching staff will be keeping a keen eye on says McPake. “If we don’t get the three points at Palmerston, it won’t matter what happens at Stark’s Park,” he said.

Dundee boss James McPake hopes to kill off Dick Campbell s hopes of another Manger of the Month gong when Arbroath visit Dens Park
© SNS Group James McPake plans to scupper Dick Campbell’s hopes of a second consecutive Manager of the Month award – by leading his Dundee side to victory over Arbroath on Saturday. McPake was full of congratulations for Campbell – but insists the Gayfield gaffer will need to win at Dens Park this weekend to make it two on the bounce. “The Manager of the Month award is thoroughly deserved and congratulations to Dick for that,” said McPake. “If he is going to get next month’s and make it two on the trot, he will have to come to Dens and win so, hopefully, I can knock that on the head on Saturday.”

Dundee United agree Kieran Freeman can return to Peterhead on loan
Dundee United agree Kieran Freeman can return to Peterhead on loan by Craig Stewart © SNS Group Kieran Freeman in action for Dundee United. Dundee United have agreed that promising defender Kieran Freeman can return to Peterhead on loan as soon as the League One club gets back to business. The 20-year-old – who started this season by making three appearances in the United first-team –joined the Blue Toon in October. He made 14 appearances before being recalled when the leagues outwith the Premiership and Championship were mothballed in January. The Scottish youth international, who started his career with the Terrors as a youngster before heading to Southampton in July 2016 for three and a half years, returned to Tannadice a year ago on a short-term deal which was quickly extended until 2022.

Dundee will have be wary of speedy Queens side says manager James McPake
Dundee will have be wary of speedy Queens side says manager James McPake © SNS Group Dundee will have to be wary of speedy counter-attacks when taking on Queen of the South today, says boss James McPake. The Dark Blues are set to play their first fixture since the January 30 defeat at Raith Rovers after a string of call-offs due to bad weather. And facing them at Dens Park are in-form Queen of the South, fresh from a 1-0 win at Inverness and boasting a recent record of just one defeat in eight matches. Having played three matches more than their hosts, a victory for the Doonhamers can see them leapfrog Dundee and into the play-off spots.

Jonathan Afolabi: Dundee boss James McPake issues challenge to on-loan Celtic striker
Jonathan Afolabi: Dundee boss James McPake issues challenge to on-loan Celtic striker © SNS Group James McPake has challenged on-loan Celtic striker Jonathan Afolabi to force his way into the Dundee team over the coming weeks. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international joined the Dark Blues at the start of the season and has featured 11 times, scoring three goals. A raw talent, Afolabi’s strikes have been key ones – a winner against Morton, a last-gasp equaliser to keep Dundee in the cup against Bonnyrigg Rose and a pressure penalty to seal three points against Hearts. However, the arrival of frontman Jason Cummings saw Afolabi drop out of the matchday squad completely in Dundee’s last match against Raith Rovers.
