More importantly, Pedro was a kind, dear friend to us all. Our hearts are with Pedro’s family and all who love him at this extraordinarily difficult time.”

The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance on Jan. 12 announced that the Beckett family, founders and owners of Peachy Canyon Winery, are the 2020 Wine Industry Person(s) of the Year.
The annual award recognizes a person or people who exemplify the spirit of the Paso Robles Wine Country with outstanding leadership, vision and stewardship. While the award normally is presented at the alliance’s annual gala, the event was canceled because of pandemic restrictions. Instead, the Beckett family Doug, Nancy and sons Josh and Jake will be honored in an upcoming “Where Wine Takes You” podcast as well as in an episode of the weekly Paso Wine Zoom Hangout.

There was an active storm season in 2017, when a three-game weekend series between the Marlins and Brewers was forced to relocate to Milwaukee because of Hurricane Irma. (The roof of Marlins Park incurred minor damage that was fixed over the offseason.)
Attendance was capped due to staffing issues, with only the lower seating bowl open for the series opener (a capacity of about 10,000). Capacity increased to approximately 23,000 for the next two games. Marlins Park stood ready to host the games, but we all agreed that burdening public service resources was not the proper course of action, then-Marlins president David Samson said in a statement. Following Hurricane Irma, the Miami Marlins realize that all of our employees, as well as our entire community, have other needs that must take a priority at this time.
We can all stop crying now. The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs will not meet in the World Series. With both teams five outs away from the Fall Classic and with three-run leads, the Curse of the Goat (Cubs) and the Curse of the Bambino (Red Sox) struck again as a fan and a struggling third baseman sent the two Cinderellas home with no glass slipper.

Instead, the Beckett Family, including Doug and Nancy Beckett, Jake Beckett, and Josh Beckett, will be honored in an upcoming Where Wine Takes You podcast as well as an episode of the weekly Paso Wine Zoom Hangout. An in-person celebration to honor the Beckett family will take place in the future once large gatherings are able to take place.
