LEVELLAND, Texas One officer has died and three others are hospitalized with wounds after a police standoff in a small West Texas town erupted in gunfire.
The incident involves a man barricaded in a house Thursday afternoon on a residential street in Levelland, about 30 miles west of Lubbock.
Three of the wounded officers were taken to a Lubbock hospital, where Sgt. Josh Bartlett, leader of the Lubbock County Sheriff s Office s SWAT commander, died of his wounds.

A SWAT officer has been killed and another three officers injured in Texas after a standoff with a gunman on Thursday afternoon, according to reports.
The incident involved a man reported as possibly armed shortly after 1 p.m. local time Thursday on a residential street in the West Texas town of Levelland, about 30 miles west of Lubbock.
The confrontation escalated quickly and gunfire erupted as the suspect barricaded himself inside a house and a standoff ensued. The house is located in the 1100 block of 10th Street in Levelland.
Sgt. Josh Bartlett, SWAT Leader for Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office, is dead, and two other officers are in critical condition, local outlet KCBD reported, citing the Justice of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas.

Four law enforcement officers were shot and one was killed by a suspect barricaded in a home in Levelland, Texas.
Levelland police officers came under fire at about 1 p.m. Thursday from a person who was locked and barricaded inside a home, police said. They had previously received a call from a citizen who said their neighbor was acting strange and appeared to be walking around with a large gun, police said. The Lubbock County Sheriff s Office SWAT Team was called to assist Levelland police officers at 2:15 p.m. local time.

Three of the wounded officers were taken to a Lubbock hospital. Sgt. Josh Bartlett of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was taken to Covenant Health Levelland hospital and died of his wounds, according to a sheriff’s office statement. Bartlett was the commander of the sheriff’s tactical unit.
