There is plenty of ineptness around the league this year, but we can’t write about St Kilda’s lack of heart every week.
It’s time to celebrate the clubs at the pointy end. It’s not often we get a true top-of-the-table clash between the two clear best teams, and they are to be savoured.
With both the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne two games and percentage clear of third, sitting at 9-1 and locks for the top four, there is no doubt that this is a heavyweight bout. There is every chance these teams will meet again in September, and possibly on the last Saturday.

Western Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar will undergo surgery on his ankle after injuring it against the Saints on Saturday night.
The star recruit is set for 6-8 weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from the syndesmosis injury.
“We’ve decided the best way to manage this injury is to operate to stabilise the ligament,” said Bulldogs head of sports medicine Chris Bell on Monday.
“This will get him back playing sooner and avoid ongoing complications.
“We will confirm his timeframe to return to play following the surgery but expect him to miss the 6-8 weeks of footy.”

As I’ve said before, we use 23 sources of voting and evaluations of AFL players each week: several teams of the week, Brownlow-style voting, best-on-grounds, fantasy scoring, statistical leaders and AFLCA voting.

Leading up to Wednesday, June 2 all 18 AFL clubs will be frantically preparing for the opportunity to bring new talent onto their lists from the VFL, SANFL and WAFL.
Of course, there are several clubs that planned for this eventuality by leaving rookie spots open on their lists, while other clubs have had players go onto the long-term injury list having been determined to be unfit to return in 2021.
Retirements and disciplinary delistings have also opened space for clubs, with the reduced list sizes leaving several clubs with lengthening injury issues if patterns continue to deteriorate.
