Revisiting the Joshua King to Celtic links
May 13, 2021
At the start of April, when Eddie Howe to Celtic was in absolute overdrive (for the first time), former Bhoys midfielder Vidar Riseth claimed we should sign Joshua King.
King, who worked with Howe at the Cherries, seemed an obvious link, in a sense. Celtic need strikers, or forwards who can drift in from wide. He’s going to be out of contract shortly. With all these ingredients in the pot, a rumour was going to cook.
So, let’s get even more obvious with it: Celtic have made this kind of signing before. Think of Scott Sinclair, who had a rough spell with Aston Villa. Brendan Rodgers had struck up a great working relationship with Sinclair at Swansea City. We initially thought “there’s no way we can afford his wages”. Turns out we could: we rejuvenated his career, and he scored 62 goals and set up a further 34 [Transfermarkt].

With the weeks counting down to the end of the season, Carlo Ancelotti opted for a formation change against a disciplined West Ham side. Michael Keane reentered the starting XI as the Toffees deployed a 3–5–2.
Everton put the pressure on early with a trio of corner kicks that tested the Hammers’ defense. The final attempt saw Dominic Calvert-Lewin power a header over the goal. Aside from the set pieces, the London outfit looked every bit a side fighting for the Champions League; they were flying on the wings and composed in the middle through the first 15 minutes of the contest. Richarlison brought the Toffees back into the game in the 16’ when he won the team’s fourth corner, albeit an unsuccessful one.

David Moyes says Dominic Calvert-Lewin s match-winning goal was a terrible one to concede by West Ham United on Sunday.
Substitute Edinson Cavani headed in a third goal in the 87th minute and Villa had striker Ollie Watkins sent off two minutes later for picking up a second yellow card after he was adjudged to have dived. City still need three points from their final three games to seal a third league championship in four years under Pep Guardiola, and a fifth in 10 seasons in total.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes equalises against Aston Villa from the penalty spot, his 17th goal of the campaign. United could, however, hand the title to City by losing either of its games on Tuesday (Wednesday NZT) and Thursday (Friday NZT) – against Leicester and Liverpool, respectively.
