Former President Donald Trump is hiring prominent South Carolina attorney Butch Bowers to represent him at the upcoming impeachment trial, aides said.
Bowers worked for the Justice Department during President George W. Bush s administration but is better known as for his government work in South Carolina. He has served as counsel to Republican governors Nikki Haley and Mark Sanford, and did a stint as chairman South Carolina s election commission.
Now he will defend Trump after the U.S. House impeached him on charges that he incited the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
The Senate has yet to schedule Trump s trial.
Trump has refused to call Biden as is customary for an outgoing president. He plans to skip Biden s inauguration and leave the White House that morning.
