USAID, partners discuss gender mainstreaming project

AMMAN The highlights of a USAID-funded programme that seeks to mainstream gender within society took centre stage at a recent event, reviewing the project’s activities in Jordan over the last eight years in collaboration with the government and civil society.
On March 10, the Gender Programme funded by USAID and implemented by IREX “Takamol”, held an event titled “Mainstreaming Gender in the Jordanian Context - USAID Takamol Learning Journey.”
The USAID Takamol programme implemented by IREX, a global development and education organisation, is a programme that seeks to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Jordan, according to IREX.

The Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Sub-Working Group (SGBV SWG) conducted this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign under the framework of the national campaign launched by the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW). The thematic focus of the national campaign was “Eliminating all forms of Domestic Violence against women and girls” The theme is aligned with the global theme “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent,
Collect!” to fight against Domestic Violence that has been exacerbated due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Jordan to host 9th Global Land Forum

AMMAN Jordan is preparing to host the ninth Global Land Forum, being the first host-country in the region, with the aim to highlight land-related issues nationally, regionally and globally.
Organised by the International Land Coalition (ILC), the forum is a triannual meeting that brings together NGOs, research centres, government agencies, institutions and community-based organisations in the hosting country to build a vision and roadmap for land governance based on local and national priorities, according to the ILC website.
“The Kingdom will host the first Global Land Forum-Youth, a space for young people where they would debate and define their own agenda,” Raed Gharib, CEO of SEEDS Jordan, a nonprofit organisation that invests in the power of young people, to face global challenges, and one of the board members of the ILC, told The Jordan Times on Tuesday.
