Interim Greenfield super replies to newspaper’s public records request

GREENFIELD The Greenfield Recorder has received an answer to its public records request for 15 months’ worth of emails between School Committee members.
Shortly after social media lit up in mid-March with comments and concerns about the School Committee chair and vice chair communicating through email, alleging that they have violated Massachusetts Open Meeting Law, among other things, the Recorder’s request was submitted on March 20.
The reporter received a letter 10 business days later from Interim Superintendent Judith Houle of The Management Solution (TMS) the Greenfield School Department is currently paying Houle, TMS President Andrew Paquette (the department’s business manager), two consultants and a communications specialist saying the public records request yielded 32,208 emails.

GREENFIELD The new school superintendent search is moving along, with the School Committee voting Wednesday night to post the position by April 21 and schedule the beginning of the application review process five weeks later, on May 28.
Early in the meeting during the public comment portion, before the discussion about the superintendent search began, Greenfield resident Doug Selwyn asked why the School Committee is just now starting the search.
“Why are you starting at this late day if you knew this was coming in September?” he asked.

GREENFIELD The chair of the committee that will find a new Greenfield School Department superintendent has chosen 16 people to serve alongside her, and the School Committee approved all of them on Wednesday.
School Committee member Jean Wall, who is heading the Superintendent Search Committee, said she chose more people than she had expected she originally said there would be 12 to 13 on the committee, and instead there are 17 including her.
Wall began accepting letters of interest from parents, teachers, principals, union members, school administrators, business leaders, city councilors and anyone else who would like to help choose the Greenfield School Department’s next superintendent several weeks ago. She received 28 letters of interest and a few people spoke to her about helping.

I was proud to be a member of the Superintendent Search Committee that recommended Superintendent Harper for the position, and I was glad to collaborate with her during my time on the Town Council. I admire her professionalism, depth of knowledge, empathy, integrity, and her commitment to our schools and our students.
