UNSUNG returns with untold stories about Bobby V, Syleena Johnson, Morris Day and more

March 3rd, 2021 by KRNB Quadir Thomas UNSUNG, TV One’s critically-acclaimed series, is set to make its return this year highlighting the careers of  Bobby V, Syleena Johnson, Leela James, gospel singer  Hezekiah Walker and more.  The new season begins with exploring the personal life and music career of 80’s recording artist and performer  Morris Day. “Whatever you do it’s got to be funky,” says Day in the series trailer. UNSUNG takes viewers on a behind-the-scenes look at the personal life and career of musical legends like never before. The series celebrates artists “who, despite great talent, have been under-appreciated or under-recognized,” according to a press release.

From scorching message songs to sexy ballads, laidback steppers to boogie joints, the catalog of Philadelphia International Records (PIR) is both unmistakably bold and warmly enticing. Spearheaded by the influential songwriting and production partnership of Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff, along with invaluable input from their colleague Thom Bell, a producer, arranger and musician, the label put out 15 Gold singles and 22 Gold albums, including eight Platinum LPs, during its 1970s and early ’80s heyday, and nurtured the careers of artists including Lou Rawls, Patti LaBelle, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and the O’Jays.
