With fire out, PGH moves newborns, pedia patients to other hospitals

The government-run Philippine General Hospital (PGH) transferred 12 newborn babies and several other pedriatic patients to nearby hospitals after fire broke out in its central block early Sunday morning, May 16.
Speaking to DZBB roughly two hours after the fire was extinguished at 5:41 am, PGH spokesperson Dr. Jonas del Rosario said PGH had to transfer 12 newborn babies to the nearby Sta. Ana Hospital to make sure the young patients would still be kept under the nursery s necessary controlled conditions.
Several pedia patients were also moved to private hospitals upon their request. Ospital ng Maynila Director Dr. Karl Laqui said two patients were transferred to their hospital for appendectomy.
Most patients who have been evacuated following the fire that broke out at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) early Sunday morning, May 16, already returned to their respective rooms or wards, according to the hospital's spokesperson.

PGH Spokesperson Dr. Jonas Del Rosario said that 12 infant patients were transferred to the Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila.
“Meron po kaming mga nilipat. Meron po kasi kaming nursery (area)…so in-evacuate po namin yung mga babies (Some patients were transferred. We have a nursery (area)… so we evacuated the babies),” said Del Rosario in an interview over ABS-CBN Teleradyo.
“Meron din kaming mga limang pedia patients po na inilipat namin sa iba-ibang hospital na tinanggap naman po nila (We also have about five pediatric patients that we transferred to various hospitals),” he added.
Del Rosario said that the fire started in the operating room sterilization area (ORSA )of the hospital located on the third floor.
