Judges Announced for UW s John P Ellbogen $50K Entrepreneurship Competition | News

April 8, 2021 The University of Wyoming College of Business has selected the panel of judges for the 2021 John P. Ellbogen $50K Entrepreneurship Competition. The five judges have volunteered their time and expertise to judge the nine student business plans, each vying for a share of $50,000 in prize money. “We are absolutely thrilled to have put together a panel of five exceptional judges for this year’s competition,” says Patrick Kreiser, the Rile Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship and Leadership in the UW College of Business and an associate professor of management and marketing. “Each of these judges is extremely accomplished and, taken together, the judges represent career success in a variety of entrepreneurial contexts.”

Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage: USA Today interviewed Jonathan Naughton, director of UW’s Wind Energy Research Center, for an article on critics who blamed the renewable energy industry for blackouts caused by last week’s cold snap in Texas. Iced-over wind turbines in Texas are to be expected because they are not built to withstand freezing temperatures in that state, according to experts, including Naughton. The Casper Star-Tribune (CS-T) reported that the UW Board of Trustees voted to eliminate 11 academic programs amid a statewide budget crisis brought on by declining fossil fuel production and exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. President of Jonah Bank Speaking With UW MBA Students

Jonah Bank President to Speak with UW MBA Students | News

February 18, 2021 Kim DeVore, president and a founding director of Jonah Bank of Wyoming, will speak with University of Wyoming Master of Business Administration (MBA) students Friday, Feb. 19. DeVore will meet virtually with first-year, full-time MBA students as they prepare for the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program Case Competition. Her program will focus on preparing a company for an unpredictable crisis. UW President Emeritus Dick McGinity is the faculty member leading the student team as part of his MBA “Decision Making” course. While there is a smaller team for the actual competition, all members of the MBA cohort are involved in case preparation leading up to the ninth annual competition April 16.

2020 Stuff the Van Fills Hearts and Stomachs of Natrona County

More than 3,000 kids in Natrona County got to have Christmas thanks to the Casper community coming together. 2020 had, after all, been a whirlwind of a year due to the pandemic. With that came a series of various other unfortunate events, not the least of which was an economic downturn that led many people to a sense of financial insecurity. This was in addition to the normal setbacks and hardships that plague many during the holiday season. For these reasons and more, Stuff the Van exists to provide some semblance of normalcy to families across Natrona County. And they’ve been doing it for 23 years.
