ALLEN PARK General manager Brad Holmes is receiving mostly rave reviews for his first draft in Detroit. Grades on his first class are among the best in the league. Dan Brugler, one of the very best analysts, ranked it as his third favorite class. ProFootballFocus, the advanced analytics service, gave it an A-minus.
But one critic has hit him especially hard for some of his decision-making on the first two nights of the draft.
“My mom shot me a text this morning, I guess she saw me on the last press conference. She just said, ‘You’ve got to make sure you get some sleep,’” Holmes said on Saturday evening (don’t worry Mrs. Holmes, it wasn’t too late).
“It’s extremely important in terms of, we already view him as a long-term piece and he is a foundational piece because Frank is a guy that plays the game the right way, Holmes said. He’s everything that we look for in what we want as a Lion.
Holmes said Ragnow was one of the first players to reach out to him in January when he was named GM. I told him, I said, huge fan of you and you play the game the right way, Holmes said. So very important to get it done.
Ragnow has been one of the Lions best and most durable players, regardless of position, during his three seasons in Detroit.

ALLEN PARK Penei Sewell was just 17 years old when his freshman season started at Oregon. Yet he was so good that he started at left tackle anyway, and later was named a freshman All-American. A year later, he had the best-rated season ever by an offensive lineman according to ProFootballFocus.
That’s why he was the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect in the country.
