Five young women who cheekily posed in their bras on a Mourne mountain top have rubbished false claims they had to be rescued.
The images went viral on WhatsApp but were accompanied by a video of a separate group of women who were rescued from Slieve Donard on New Year s Day.
But the hikers in these photos - Jodie Murphy, Shauna Rogan, Beth Gray Donaldson, Hollie Sweetlove and Faith Sweetlove- had been up Slieve Doan. Ms Donaldson initially posted the photos on Facebook before a fake news mischief-maker linked them to the totally unrelated Donard rescue.
She posted: Starting 2021 off with these Amazing, strong, independent women! How sunny & warm it was up there too, think I got a tan.
A group of young women who were incorrectly identified on social media as having to be rescued after they got stranded on the Mourne Mountains have set the record straight.
The women, whose picture accompanies video footage of a separate group being rescued by emergency air ambulance, took to their respective Facebook pages to clarify that it was not them.
The group photo of five girls, some of whom are in their underwear, has been circulating on social media alongside video footage of girls being rescued by helicopter.
A WhatsApp message alongside the photo states: Had to get emergency helicopter from Scotland to get them, Irish were all busy.

Dragons Dinners have been providing a ‘hot meals on wheels’ service for over 55’s in Wrexham since February of this year, however, began to help more when the pandemic hit. They say they have been moved by a heart-warming gesture to help out during these harrowing times. Jodie Murphy said: “One of our lovelies got a little lost looking for our page on Facebook and tried to join a page called Dinner and Dragons based in Canada. “The wonderful individual Jonathan, coincidently also a social worker, who runs that page not only went out of his way to redirect her to our page but he also made a fantastically generous donation.
