PROVIDENCE As the nation grapples with a string of deadly shootings by police including the March 29 shooting of a 13-year-old boy in Chicago Rhode Island lawmakers are grappling with the state s own law for disciplining and weeding out bad cops.
At one end of the debate is freshman Sen. Tiara Mack, posting on Facebook: This has been an incredibly hard week emotionally, physically, mentally. One thing I have learned is that we need to ABOLISH the police. Not reform. Not defund. Abolish.
But other R.I. lawmakers spent close to four hours in the last week debating the right balance.

Indiana Grand: Apron Strings Leads Trio Of Wins For Randy Klopp In Season Opener Sponsored by:
Indiana Grand in Shelbyville, Ind.
The 19th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing at Indiana Grand in Shelbyville, Ind. got underway Tuesday, April 13, with Apron Strings and Tommy Pompell winning the season opener. The Indiana-bred mare was one of three winners on the card for Trainer Randy Klopp, longtime Indiana horseman and Rushville, Ind. Resident.
Apron Strings got out of the gate well and tracked Long Legged Linda and Sant Sanjur through the early stages of the five furlong sprint before pressing forward and getting the lead midway through the stretch, holding on gamely through the wire. Archie s Girl and Manny Esquivel closed well for second followed by Bold Concept and Joe Ramos, who moved up the inside through traffic to finish third.
Today in Blue Jays History: Ricky Romero takes no-hitter into the 8th

Eleven Years Ago Today
Ricky Romero took a no-hitter into the 8th inning.
Unfortunately, he gave up a hit in the 8th, a home run. A two-run home run, but we still won.
Didn’t we have the debate about whether Ricky Romero was any good? I think he answered that one. He went 8 innings, allowed one hit, 12 K, 10 ground outs with 2 fly outs. Unfortunately, the one hit was an Alex Rios homer, but such is life. Kevin Gregg pitched the 9th to get the save. He struck out 2 in his perfect inning. He is pitching a lot better than he did last year. I’m not sure what the change is, but I like it.
