A 78-year-old driver died at a hospital following a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon in Northeast El Paso, police said Wednesday.
Juan Estrada was driving on Railroad Drive when he suddenly veered and struck a pickup in the next lane, a police news release stated.
The collision occurred about 1:30 p.m. and closed a portion of Railroad Drive for six hours.
Police said that Estrada was driving a 2000 Honda Passport in the right lane while Mario Escobedo, 69, was driving a 2008 Ford F-250 in the left lane. Both vehicles were southbound on Railroad Drive near Nations Tobin Park.
Estrada passed Escobedo and suddenly veered into the left lane hitting Escobedo s truck, a police news release stated.
A man was carjacked Tuesday while sitting in the bed of his pickup outside his home in Montana Vista, the El Paso County Sheriff s Office said.
The truck owner was approached by an unknown man who assaulted him at a home in the 3700 block of Judy Marie Lane and then drove away in the pickup, officials said.
Deputies later arrested Kristian Fuentes, 24, on a robbery charge after finding the truck nearby in the desert near Buntline Drive, officials said.
Fuentes was being held at the El Paso County Jail Downtown under a $50,000 bond.
A security camera photo of a man suspected of breaking statues of angels at an El Paso Catholic church was released Tuesday by police.
The vandalism occurred on the evening of Feb. 9 in the courtyard of St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Drive, in a neighborhood across Interstate 10 from Bassett Place.
About 6:20 p.m., a security camera recorded an unidentified man throwing a water bottle at windows at the church, police said in a statement. When the windows didn t break, the vandal then knocked down and broke three angel statues in the courtyard.
