Il-Ħaġar museum in Victoria will be celebrating the eighth anniversary with a programme of events between February 26 and 28. The anniversary programme also coincides with the third year from the death of Mro Joseph Vella.
An exhibition highlighting connections between Mro Vella and Oliver Friggieri, who died recently, will open on Friday, February 26. On Saturday, February 27, three events will occur – the third Joseph Vella memorial lecture by Rev. Prof. Saviour Caruana on St Augustine’s De Musica, followed by the opening of an exhibition of sacred art by Aaron Formosa and a recital by the Laudate Pueri choir at St George’s Basilica in the evening.
Festive activities at Il-Ħaġar Museum, in Victoria, continued with a concert of Christmas carols by a group of choristers from the Laudate Pueri Choir, under the direction of George J. Frendo and leader Maria Frendo. Titled Gloria in Excelsis, the concertino featured carols and motets arranged for four female voices by David Willcocks and Joseph Vella. The Gozo Ministry’s cultural heritage directorate sponsored the event.

A four-piece band featuring Franco Micallef on the piano, Joseph Vella on the bass, Anthony Muscat on the drum kit and Ray Zammit on the saxophone, together with singers Mike Spiteri and Ritienne, will bring on some Christmas cheer on Christmas Eve in Valletta.
The band will be a reduced version of the usually 16-piece Drop-Out DJ Brass Band due to COVID-19 restrictions. Led by Joseph Chircop, the band is well known for great vibes and its DJ fusion set.
Tomorrow’s event forms part of the Valletta Cultural Agency’s ‘Christmas in the City’ programme, which has been taking place in the main squares, strategic locations and the quaint streets of Valletta since December 8.
