SBS and NITV announce new commissioning editor appointments

Bernadine Lim and Marissa McDowell have been appointed as commissioning editors at SBS’ NITV.
The announcement:
SBS and National Indigenous Television (NITV) have announced the appointment of two Commissioning Editors, with Bernadine Lim joining SBS as Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, and Marissa McDowell joining NITV as Commissioning Editor.
As a member of SBS’s Unscripted team, Lim will work across SBS’s slate of distinctive commissioned documentaries, championing diverse stories and exploring issues impacting contemporary Australia.
McDowell will join NITV’s commissioning team, working on the development and delivery of a diverse slate of commissioned programming for the channel, including documentaries, entertainment and children’s programs reflecting, exploring and celebrating First Nations stories.

SBS has announced four productions which to receive development funding as part of its
Australia Uncovered single documentary strand.
Commissioning of a fifth program is also being explored.
Production teams from 5 projects participated in a live pitching session at the Australian International Documentary Conference yesterday, competing for a chance to share in development funds from SBS.

Noni Hazlehurst, Justine Clarke and Indira Naidoo have all fronted recent documentaries on SBS, which is proving a winning formula for the public broadcaster.
SBS Head of Documentaries, Joseph Maxwell said, “When we have a presenter they can become a lynchpin for Publicity, be that on radio, other networks -and often we do get on other networks with our publicity.
“That gives us greater exposure and coverage. So there is that advantage with a presenter as well, of course, the authority they bring and insight they bring into that subject.”
