Abducted Rivers Poly lecturer regains freedom

The kidnapped lecturer of Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Ken-Poly, Bori in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, James Fenwi has regained his freedom from his abductors.
Finwe, who was abducted by yet-to-be-identified gunmen at his residence in Igwurutali community, Ikwerri LGA was released Saturday.
Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, in Ken-Poly, Prince Psudo Nwiyo confirmed that Finwe was released unconditionally by his abductors.

Nwiyo noted that the pressure placed on the security agencies by the union paid off, commending Governor Nyesom Wike and the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan for their efforts.

RIVERS State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of one of its officer, Sergeant Ibrahim Odege, for alleged involvement in an armed robbery in Port Harcourt.
Sergeant Odege, attached to the Operations Department of the Rivers Police Command was caught Saturday night along with one Sampson Inomoghe ‘m’ 32 years by security guards and residents at Elekahia Estate, where they were robbing victims at gunpoint.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Command, SP Nnamdi, in a statement following the handover of both suspects to the police, said the police officer and his civilian partner in crime were caught at about 2200hrs.

The Police in Rivers State has busted an illegal detention facility used by a popular vigilante group in Igwruta, Ikwerre local government area of the State, releasing scores found in the cell.
Also, the police said it arrested three members of the vigilantes known OSPAC, an acronym for ‘Onelga Security Peace and Advisory Council,’ during a raid of its base in Igwuruta on Saturday, though sources said seven of the vigilantes were arrested.
Though it could not be immediately ascertained what led to the raid, it came on the heels of a recent warning by the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, for OSPAC to operate within the law following allegations of indiscriminate arrest and extra-judicial killing against the outfit.

Gunmen on Wednesday invaded Tere-Ama community in the Port Harcourt Local Government Area of Rivers State and killed on person.
Although the reason behind the attack on the community is still unclear, a resident in the area who only identified himself as Somieri told PUNCH Metro that the gunmen attack may be connected to their regular extortion of business owners in the area.
Recall that Chief Tamunokuro Somiari, the paramount ruler of Somieri-Ama community, a neighbouring town had raised an alarm over a threat to his life after some gunmen attacked him at his house.

Rivers State Police Command has deployed 366 special constabularies for community policing.
The special constabularies have been deployed to their respective localities after undergoing eight weeks of training at the Police Training School in Nonwa Tai, Rivers State.
Addressing the constabularies on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police Mr. Joseph Mukan at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt charged the newly recruits to synergize with the police divisions in their areas for effective community policing.
Mukan warned that corruption will not be tolerated among the newly recruited special constabularies under his watch.
The commissioner also told the Special Constabularies not to have the mindset of making money through corruption in the course of their duty.
