Teamsters 53 endorses Thomson for judge
Barbara Thomson, a Democratic candidate for Municipal Court, was endorsed by Teamsters Joint Council 53.
“During college summers, the hardest job I had was when I worked construction as a laborer. I loved those jobs because the people treated me so well. I will never forget those relationships. They enforced the values of respect and compassion I was raised with,” Thomson said. “We watched out for each other.”
Thomson is one of four candidates running for three seats. ••

Catholic high school hosts COVID vaccine clinic for teachers

Hundreds of local educators received their COVID vaccinations last week at an area Catholic high school, thanks to a collaboration among Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the archdiocesan Office for Catholic Education (OCE), Faith in the Future, the School District of Philadelphia and independent schools.

ITHACA, N.Y. - A Cornell University animal scientist studying relationships between insulin and milk production in dairy cows has received a three-year, $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
Joseph McFadden, associate professor of dairy cattle biology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, will use the funds to identify mechanisms that control insulin resistance in lactating cows. Under normal circumstances, insulin resistance in cows is an adaptation that helps channel glucose and other key nutrients towards making milk in early lactation. Unfortunately, insulin resistance may become uncontrolled postpartum, leading to the breakdown of fats and metabolic disease.
