Florida has the most COVID-19 variant cases in the nation, according to the CDC. These cases are emerging as some use our state as their getaway from the cold and tight pandemic restictions.
One expert says we can expect some protection from the variants thanks to the multiple COVID-19 vaccines that are available. But, that may not protect us completely against the virus.
Joseph Pepe is a spokesperson Florida Department of Health Officer for Charlotte County.
“Most counties in our area had their first cases around this time,” Pepe said.
There are communities where people can’t simply get online and make an online appointment to get vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are under 65 and extremely vulnerable to COVID-19, you will need a special form from your doctor before you can get your vaccine. But the form’s purpose, fulfilling Gov. Ron DeSantis’ order to expand vaccine eligibility to some people under 65, is controversial.
People over 65 who still haven’t gotten vaccinated say making more people eligible for the vaccine is adding more stress. One Cape Coral man, Alan Grudzien, has tried to get an appointment three times a week, every week since January no luck.
