NYS May Have Undercounted Nursing Home Deaths by 50 Percent
A review of Covid-19 deaths in New York state nursing homes has concluded that many more residents have died than the numbers that have been publicly reported.
Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday said an investigation revealed a larger number of nursing home residents died from the coronavirus than the numbers released by state officials.
James concluded the number of deaths may have been undercounted by as much as 50 percent.
The attorney general also said the review found many nursing homes failed to comply with critical infection control policies, putting residents at increased risk of harm.
