Suspects nabbed for ’demanding R20k bribe’ from resident to install her meter box Share Johannesburg - Three men, pretending to be working for a company that does business with City Power, have been arrested for allegedly soliciting a R20 000 bribe from a Joburg resident. The three were expected to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly demanding the money to install her electricity meter that City Power had removed. Allegations are that the suspects approached the resident, pretending to be from an independent contractor who provides electricity reconnection services to City Power. They are believed to have told the resident that they would install her meter to her property if she paid them R20 000.

Managing a large city such as Johannesburg requires a significant volume of data and subsequent analysis of this data, for the coordination and management of land use, and the provision and operation of public infrastructure. Some data is needed to manage specific tasks, such as running a wastewater treatment plant. Some are necessary for long-term city planning; for example, population change and gross value added. The city needs urban data at varying degrees of detail and it needs to be collected longitudinally, to monitor and analyze trends over time. To obtain, manage, and extract value from this data, the City deploys multiple strategies.

Off-duty JMPD officer rescues e-hailing driver from boot of hijacked car

(Felix Dlangamandla, Gallo Images, Netwerk24, file) The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) hailed an off-duty officer, who rescued a kidnapped e-hailing driver from the boot of his hijacked car. JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the officer received information on Friday that a car belonging to an e-hailing service driver was being stripped in Mid-Ennerdale. The driver had been bundled into the boot. Upon investigation, the officer spotted a suspicious vehicle, with two suspects as per the lookout. The officer immediately called for backup, and the suspects noticed him from a distance. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and walked towards a nearby tavern, said Fihla.
