Joburg Zoo’s gift to moms this Mother’s Day Page Content Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo is gifting mothers in the city free access into the zoo on Sunday, 9 May 2021, to celebrate Mother’s Day.  This is to honour Mzansi’s mothers who have made staying home fun, who have home-schooled their children and worked tirelessly during the uncertainty of lockdown to keep their families safe, happy and healthy.  Although we’re not able to celebrate our annual Mother’s Day concert at the Joburg Zoo dancing to great tunes, this Mother’s Day, City Parks and Zoo is offering free access to the zoo to all mothers only, strictly from 09h00 to 11h00 on a first come, first serve basis. It will be limited to the first 500 mothers with a maximum of 2 000 people.

Newly appointed entities non-executive directors tasked with service delivery

Page Content The City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Cllr Geoffrey Makhubo, has urged the newly appointed and retained entities non-executive directors, independent audit committee members and advisory committee members to put the dreams and aspirations of residents at the centre of their work. Mayor Makhubo was virtually delivering the keynote address during the induction of the members under the theme: “Service delivery – A constitutional right, a priority of the government of local unity” on Thursday, 4 March 2021. “What you are tasked with is not a small feat. While residents face their daily challenges, you are tasked to make sure that communities are safe and their livelihood is protected. You are entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that the properties, assets of the City and money of people of Johannesburg are safe from the greedy and those who only think for themselves,” he said.

Johannesburg Roads Agency

Johannesburg Roads Agency   The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), a self-contained company owned by the City, is the agency responsible for the design, maintenance, repair and development of Johannesburg s road network and stormwater infrastructure, including bridges and culverts, traffic lights and signage. What is an agency and how does it work? AS the City tries to run on more efficient, business-like lines, various services have been reorganised into self-contained utilities and agencies . Utilities have been formed for services that can be charged directly to individual consumers, such as electricity and water, while agencies have been created to look after the City s roads and parks. These agencies then charge the City Council for services rendered. The Johannesburg Roads Agency is run by a managing director and a board of directors who report to the City Manager.
