A once-barren tract of land at a family centre has been transformed into a lush oasis where gardeners are literally picking the fruits of their labour of the past nine months.
The vegetable garden at the Somerset West Family Shelter in Church Street has already celebrated its maiden harvest since the first seeds were sown last April. The fresh produce has bolstered the meal offerings of both the family shelter and its sister organisation, the Somerset West Night Shelter, while veggies were also donated to local soup kitchens through Somerset West CAN.
