If your gift-wrapping skills leave something to be desired, donât worry. Sloppy packaging has been given a bad rap.
You know the kind Iâm talking about: The paperâs bunched up. The folds arenât creased. The corners, if you can call them that, are agape. And the ribbonâs a mess.
If the box looks that bad, you might think, how good could the gift be?
But thatâs the key: Nobody expects something desirable to be poorly packaged.
Because of that, sloppily wrapped gifts tend to exceed expectations, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Consumer Psychology, while pristine parcels promise more than they deliver.
