Enhance La Jolla Day set for this weekend
The La Jolla Village Merchants Association is partnering with Enhance La Jolla, which administers the Maintenance Assessment District for The Village, and other community groups for Enhance La Jolla Day from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20.
The community improvement day started as a way to get volunteers involved in ongoing projects, “but then it took on a life of its own” and is bringing together community groups such as the Village Merchants Association, Enhance La Jolla, La Jolla Community Foundation and La Jolla Town Council, said Enhance La Jolla President Ed Witt.

The March 11 meeting of the La Jolla Town Council included a forum reviewing several coastal issues pertinent to the area.
Sea lions
Sea lions have “invaded The Cove, polluting the water,” La Jollan John Leek said as he asked the Town Council to encourage the city of San Diego to review the program protecting sea lions that was implemented five years ago.
Until a year ago, the term “social distancing” wasn’t in the national lexicon and wearing masks was not the norm. But the COVID-19 pandemic changed our behaviors swiftly and often, from staying home to “flattening the curve” to donating meals to hospital workers to searching for vaccination appointments.
We learned to access work, school and entertainment via Zoom and other virtual platforms. Restaurants adapted to takeout models and, along with other businesses, have ping-ponged among various modes of operation as coronavirus cases have swelled and ebbed.
