New Zealand has never won a Games medal in the class before.

Jonelle Price and Grovine De Reve got New Zealand’s equestrian campaign underway in Tokyo.
Jonelle Price has got New Zealand’s Tokyo Olympics equestrian campaign off to a solid start on Friday’s opening day of the eventing competition. In the first of three dressage sessions, world No 7 Price, aboard Grovine De Reve, produced a decent showing for the three judges, to be awarded a score of 30.70, which had her placed eighth of 21 riders in that opening session (there are 63 riders overall). In what is a new and shorter Olympic dressage test, of just under four minutes per rider, there were some unexpectedly high penalty points scored, with four going over the 40-mark. Great Britain’s Oliver Townend led on 23.60.
The Tokyo Olympic eventing team pathfinders have been giving their reaction to being first out for their countries in this new format competition.
Jonelle Price said that “sadly” there hadn’t been much discussion about the New Zealand order, joking about her husband and team-mate Tim and their third team-mate, Olympic debutant Jesse Campbell: “Tim is definitely not at his best early in the morning and Jesse would have been crapping himself going number one, so it was really me by default.”
