The Dunedin doctor imprisoned for the infamous murder of a teenage girl who had threatened him with allegations of sexual assault has had his appeal against the conviction thrown out.
A panel of Court of Appeal judges have also said they are satisfied the man committed the crime, and that he is also guilty of threatening to kill four people to silence a witness.

The former doctor who brutally murdered a Dunedin teenager in her bed has died in prison.
Venod Skantha died in custody yesterday - the same day his appeal against his conviction was dismissed.
Police were alerted to a sudden death at Otago Corrections Facility just before 4pm. The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner.

After a nerve-racking few months, the family of murdered Dunedin teen Amber-Rose Rush are breathing sighs of relief after her killer s appeal bid was tossed out.
The Court of Appeal yesterday took the rare step of stating it was satisfied the evidence in the case proved doctor Venod Skantha s guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
In a 44-page decision roundly dismissing the appeal, the court upheld Skantha s convictions for murdering the teen in 2018, and for threatening to kill four people to secure the silence of a witness.
