Moderator, lawyer Sean Murphy dies
Edgartown town moderator Sean Murphy died Friday following a months-long fight with cancer.
Murphy’s death was confirmed by Edgartown town administrator James Hagerty.
Murphy, a well-known lawyer in Edgartown, was frequently seen representing clients at local zoning board, Martha’s Vineyard Commission, and select board meetings.
In 2018 Murphy took up the mantle of town moderator following the retirement of longtime moderator Jeff Norton.

Edgartown investigates dog âattackâ
Doyles say they had to kick the other dog to stop it.

The Edgartown select board is asking its animal control officer to investigate an incident involving a dog attack on Clevelandtown Road Sunday, March 21.
During a meeting Monday, the select board referred the incident to the animal control officer Betsy Young Buck to do a report.
A letter to the board outlines the complaint made by Richard and Eva Doyle, who have been seasonal residents for 54 years. According to the letter, on that Sunday, the Doyles were walking their dogs when the dog being walked by Eva was charged at by either a German shepherd or a Belgium malinois, the letter states. âThe dog had its teeth showing and clearly was in attack mode

Edgartown shifts town meetings to May 22
Edgartown, which held its town meeting at Edgartown School last year, is planning to hold this year s meeting May 22.
The Edgartown board of selectmen voted Monday to move the annual and special town meeting date, originally scheduled in April, to May 22.
Town administrator James Hagerty said at Monday’s meeting of the board of selectmen that based on the plan details from last year’s meetings, having the upcoming meeting at the Edgartown School will make the most sense, with COVID precautions still in full effect. Once again, the town will use tents.
