Cleveland Clinic joins clinical trial of allergic reactions to COVID-19 vaccine The main campus of Cleveland Clinic Cleveland Clinic will serve as the only clinical site in Ohio to participate in a national multi-center clinical trial to study severe allergic reaction to mRNA COVD-19 vaccines, according to a news release. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is leading the trial to study the incidents of such anaphylactic reactions and whether certain risk factors increase the likelihood of experiencing the potentially life-threatening allergic reactions. Current research suggest anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction to the mRNA vaccines (those manufactured by Pfizer or Moderna) occurs in about 2.5 to 5.5 people per 1 million doses, the release stated.
