Mock draft season is hitting a fever pitch, as analysts are constantly funneling mocks into the public sphere. And while being closer to the NFL Draft doesn’t make these mocks any closer to being accurate, what they tend to provide is insight into team needs, positional depth, and how teams could go above using picks.
To that end, the latest from Mel Kiper Jr. should raise some eyebrows.
The long-time ESPN pundit is a unique mock with trade-ups, move-backs, and some surprise picks here and there. But when it comes to the Chicago Bears, that’s where Kiper’s mock stops me in place. Because, with the 20th pick, he sends Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins to Chicago. This isn’t the first time Jenkins has been the Bears’ pick in a mock. In fact, Kiper has been connecting Chicago and Jenkins since January. And with the 52nd pick, Auburn receiver Anthony Schwartz goes to Chicago. Two picks. Two needs filled. All things considered, this mock seems par for the course.
Mauger and fellow councillor and supporter James Daniels said the work fixed the flooding overnight. But the council, which plugged the trench to stop it working, questioned its effectiveness and said the trench created health and safety and environmental risks. A council spokesman said on Wednesday the regulatory compliance unit had completed its investigation into the incident and issued Mauger with an infringement notice and fined him $300. Mauger also agreed to do free maintenance work in the red zone, at no cost to the council, and has since been repairing a walkway and cycleway under the northern side of New Brighton’s Anzac Bridge.

On this date in 2017, ESPN’s Todd McShay played GM for every NFL team in a three-round mock. And I’m not sure which has me more confused: No quarterbacks going in Round 1 of this mock that was made about 20 days before the 2017 Draft … or that Mitchell Trubisky was still his QB1? In either case, re-visiting this mock draft should serve as a reminder of how much things can change between now and draft day. But also, it’s worth remembering that mock drafts are good for assessing team needs and the perception of strengths and weaknesses in a given glass.
