Barkerville is facing a 670 thousand dollar budget shortfall going into this year, but James Douglas, the Public Programming & Global Media Development Lead, says this money would really help.
“With this new fund that was recently announced by the province, we’re very excited about it, we’re very excited to be able to work with the Minister of Tourism and we do, from the looks of things, at least qualify to apply for up to 500 thousand dollars, so we are very definitely putting our application forward.”

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced senior role changes with the brand poised to begin a new era of electrification and retail focus with the forthcoming arrival of new models.
David Hanna, currently head of aftersales, will assume the role of head of sales operations when the current incumbent, James Douglas, heads to Volkswagen Passenger Cars at the start of June.
In his new role, Hanna will be responsible for defining and delivering all sales programmes for the brand, as well as conversions and specialist sales, and the Van Centre network.
Hanna’s first role in the Volkswagen Group was with Audi UK, and he joined Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in October 2017 as head of fleet.

Payments technology company mx51 has raised $25 million in a Series A round led by Acorn Capital, Artesian, Commencer Capital and Mastercard.
The funds represent
mx51’s first major round of investment, secured less than 12 months after the company spun out of Assembly Payments in May 2020.
The business is led and founded by former Westpac executive and former Assembly Payments co-CEO Victor Zheng.
mx5 says the round will allow it to rapidly expand in Australia and build out further functionality to compete with other payment platforms.
