A teenager sheltering in his basement has been killed and several of his family members critically injured as a tornado blew a tree on to their home in Alabama.
At least 30 other people were injured as the twister carved a path of destruction north of Birmingham.
OMAHA, Neb. â A major winter storm blanketed parts of the middle of the country with snow that was forecast into late Tuesday in some areas, disrupting traffic and closing some coronavirus testing sites.
The National Weather Service said at least 4 inches of snow is expected across most of an area stretching from central Kansas northeast to Chicago and southern Michigan. Parts of southeast Nebraska and western Iowa could get more than three times that much by Tuesday morning.
More than 10 inches of snow had already fallen in parts of eastern Nebraska by Monday evening, leading to early closures of several coronavirus testing sites in the state as well as Iowa.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala A teenager sheltering in his basement was killed and several family members were critically injured when a tornado blew a tree onto their home in Alabama, police said Tuesday.
The twister injured at least 30 people overall as it carved a 10-mile (16 kilometer) path of destruction Monday night in the northern suburbs of Birmingham. It struck an area severely harmed by a much larger tornado a decade ago.
Pieces of buildings, furniture, appliances and trees were strewn about and vehicles ended up in awkward positions, as if a child had scattered a collection of Matchbox cars. One car landed upside down against some tree branches on a large pile of debris.

A young man was killed and many other people were injured Monday night when a tornado ripped through a town north of Birmingham, Alabama.
Multiple buildings, including a high school, a motel and dozens of homes, were severely damaged when the tornado struck Fultondale, Alabama, about 10:40 p.m. CST Monday night.
The young man, possibly a teen, was trapped in the basement of his home where his family sought shelter as the storm roared overhead, Fultondale Police Chief D.P. Smith told AL.com. It looked as if a tree fell on the home, causing the house to collapse. Smith said some of the family members were seriously injured.
