A Classic Competition Mac Wine & Food Classic continues contest The McMinnville Wine & Food Classic completed its 28th annual wine competition March 27, following a Jan. 9 rescheduling due to the pandemic. The wine contest supports the consumer event, which has been canceled until 2022. The festival raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for programs benefiting students at McMinnville’s St. James Catholic School. Organized and staffed entirely by volunteers, the Classic remains one of the largest community celebrations in Yamhill County. The wine competition draws professional judges from around the country, although this year travel was restricted to the West Coast; many drove to McMinnville. The panel represents the full spectrum of the industry, including wine buyers, sommeliers, wine writers from local, regional and national media outlets, wine educators and professional judges from industry titans such as Fred Meyer, Made in Oregon, Great Northwest Wine and Wine Press Nor

Washington School Board Approves Lincoln HVAC Bids, Parade Application

The Washington Community School Board approved bids for the Lincoln Elementary heating, ventilation and air conditioning improvement project during a special meeting Tuesday. After receiving 18 bid proposals the board approved contracts for five bid packages and two alternates for a total of $2,759,509. The board also approved two alternate rooftop unit purchases for Lincoln at a total cost of $57,795. These units will serve the gym and kitchen areas and will improve efficiency and air quality in those spaces. The board also approved submitting a special events application to the City of Washington for a high school graduation parade from noon-1 p.m. on May 14th. Superintendent Willie Stone mentioned that this is typically an informal annual event but they now wish to have the police department’s assistance for the senior car parade that will go from the high school past Case Field, and then to Lincoln Elementary, the middle school, Stewart Elementary, and St. James Catholic Schoo

Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teen who inspired the school climate strikes movement, visited New York in September, inspiring millions worldwide to take to the streets calling for climate action. Yet in Louisiana and the Ohio Valley, the petrochemical industry, fed by fracked natural gas, has continued to expand, moving the U.S. further away from preventing catastrophic impacts from climate change.
