The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released its annual 2019 traffic fatality data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS).

Former President Lyndon Johnson was probably not the first, nor certainly the last, to note that more Americans have died on the nation s roads than in all of its wars combined. He called it the highway disease in a speech in 1966, when he signed legislation that aimed to curb the slaughter.
At the time, more than 50,000 Americans were dying annually in traffic crashes. A new highway safety bureau, later named the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, was created to set vehicle safety standards, oversee recalls of defective cars and trucks, conduct safety research and consumer education, and distribute traffic safety grants to states all helping to reduce the body count.
Biden s youngest brother is a longtime real estate developer who has not hesitated in the past to use his famous sibling s name to land business deals. In 2011, three years into Joe Biden s vice presidency, he invoked the family name while trying to push through a deal for a Florida charter school company called Mavericks for Education, the Washington Post reported.
Over the years, the company has been hit with claims of mismanagement and a handful of lawsuits and audits over its schools performance, according to ABC News. Frank Biden earned hundreds of thousands of dollars working for Mavericks for Education, ABC reported.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently provided an update on the progress made by major automakers with regard to installation of automatic emergency braking systems in new vehicles. General Motors was ranked among those manufacturers with the lowest overall percentage of models equipped with automatic emergency braking, with just 47 percent of GM vehicles reported in 2020 offering the feature.
General Motors is ranked between Maserati and Mitsubishi in the new NHTSA list, with 48 percent of Maserati vehicles equipped with automatic emergency braking, and 39 percent of Mitsubishi vehicles equipped with the feature.
Meanwhile, 100 percent of Tesla and Volvo models reported in 2020 offer the feature, while 99 percent of BMW, Audi, and Subaru vehicles offer the feature.
NHTSA Requires Odometer Statements Up to 20 Years
NHTSA, the U.S. Department of Transportationâs National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, issued a reminder that starting January 1, 2021, every vehicle ownership transfer will require an odometer statement for the first 20 years.
Odometer disclosures will be required for every transfer of ownership for the first 20 years, beginning with Model Year 2011 vehicles. Model year 2010 and older vehicles will still be subject to the previous 10-year disclosure requirements, and are exempt from the new extended Federal odometer disclosure requirements.
Why the change in odometer readings? With the U.S. vehicle fleet aging, NHTSA finalized this Final Rule in September 2019 to combat what it saw as increasing odometer fraud, especially with older vehicles.
