The Kwara State Ministry of Education has reversed its decision to reopen the 10 grant-aided schools, where the use of hijab is disputed. According to the Ministry’s permanent secretary, Kemi Adeosun, the schools earlier told to reopen on Monday, will remain shut. She said the decision was taken for safety reasons. “The government therefore directs schoolchildren and teachers in the affected schools to remain at home until the contrary is announced. “The government remains committed to fairness, pluralism, and respect for the law and rights of every citizen at all times,” the statement read.

British Columbia s COVID-19 numbers have once again risen. In a written statement this afternoon (March 3), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said 542 cases of the virus were detected during the past 24 hours, bringing the grand total to 75,819.  Of the new cases, Northern Health recorded 44, bringing the authority total to 4,686 since the virus hit the region on March 14, 2020. Officials announced seven more deaths linked to the virus today, bringing the province s toll to 1,372. There are 4,654 active cases throughout B.C. with 246 people currently hospitalized, 64 of which are in ICU or critical care. Dr. Henry revealed there have been 18 new variants of concern cases, bringing the provincial total to 200, with 11 active.
