AUGUSTA Students in the city’s schools will keep learning with a hybrid model for the rest of the year.
That was the decision made by the Augusta school board of directors Wednesday night, after hearing presentations from school officials about various scenarios that would allow students to return to school for in-person learning five days a week.

AUGUSTA City officials heard what the school department had planned for spending for next year and applauded them for crafting a 2021-2022 budget that included no tax increase.
School Board Chairperson Amanda Olson said the budget, approved unanimously by the board in March, is the “smoothest” she has seen in her time on the school board. Councilors did not recommend any cuts to the $33.43 million budget, a 0.35% increase in spending from the current fiscal year.

AUGUSTA The Augusta Board of Education approved the proposed 2021-22 school budget at Wednesday night’s business meeting.
The proposed budget includes $32.64 million in spending a less-than-1% increase from current spending and is to be presented to the Augusta City Council at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6.
Superintendent James Anastasio said the budget “is a good one” that “serves the school department and students well, and reflects what we believe are the desires of the community now.”
