Milford Police Chief Michael Pighetti accused of exercising ‘unauthorized and unnecessary’ powers, placed on paid leave

The town of Milford’s police chief was placed on paid leave Tuesday as officials investigate claims “he exercised unauthorized and unnecessary police powers” while on the job, authorities said.
The Milford Select Board voted at its Tuesday meeting to place Police Chief Michael Pighetti on paid administrative leave pending the completion of the internal investigation into the allegations, according to a statement from Town Administrator Richard A. Villani.
Lt. James Falvey will serve as acting police chief for the town while the investigation is being conducted, the statement said.

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly of Minneapolis has launched Coffee Talk, a statewide free phone chat for older adults that is intended to ease loneliness and isolation among seniors. It s funded in part by a grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

MINNEAPOLIS Coffee Talk, a statewide phone chat line for older adults, has been launched by Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly, a Minneapolis organization dedicated to easing loneliness and social isolation among older adults.

MINNEAPOLIS The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on the mental health of people from all age groups, but perhaps none have been affected as much as older adults. Dangers posed by contracting the virus have left many seniors isolated and cut off from family, friends and those who care about them.
As the pandemic stretches on, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is trying to throw a lifeline of sorts to those who need connection with a drop-in phone chat line they re calling Coffee Talk. The goal is to pair older adults from across Minnesota with a caring volunteer for friendly conversation, support, and access to resources that might help their well-being.

Instead of meeting with friends over lunch, Marv Lofquist now goes online to chat with a half-dozen men who also have memory loss, taking comfort in sharing similar experiences while safely apart. Humans are social beings, Lofquist, 77, said from his Golden Valley home via Zoom. It s important to use the functionality that I have maintained instead of isolating … like talking to people.
The Alzheimer s Association, which organizes dementia support groups, has boosted online services to combat isolation during the pandemic. Other Minnesota nonprofits that serve seniors are doing the same, shifting senior center activities online, teaching older adults how to navigate FaceTime and Zoom, and recruiting volunteers
