If the Dallas Stars aren’t bringing enough drama for you, don’t forget that there’s a new thrill in town.
The IIFH U!8 Men’s World Championships have come to Frisco and Plano. Ten international teams have shown up for the fight, which begins today and continues through the gold-medal game on May 6.
And while the public is welcome in Frisco’s Comerica Center, the Plano games will be open to scouts only. Stars senior staff writer Mike Heika devoted his latest article to why this return to in-person events is such a big deal, for both players and professionals:

DETROIT – Jonathan Bernier stopped the first 43 shots fired at him on Saturday and a career-high 50 through regulation.
Such is the nature of three-on-three OT, when turnovers more often than not lead to odd-man rushes, resulting in quality scoring chances.
Still, the Red Wings had no business being in overtime after Dallas tilted the rink during the first two periods and held a 51-17 edge in shots after 60 minutes.
The Detroit Red Wings’ fourth game of the week against the Dallas Stars was a memorable one.
Goaltender Jonathan Bernier faced a mountain of shots compared to the molehill the Wings directed on net at the other end of the ice Saturday at Little Caesars Arena. The Stars ended up winning, 2-1 in overtime, on their 52nd shot on net. It’s tough to come out and have a performance like this and not win, Bernier said.
Jamie Benn scored 32 seconds into the extra period after Filip Hronek turned over the puck. You get into overtime and it’s always bitter when you lose, especially when you give up a needless chance like that, coach Jeff Blashill said. We have to execute better in those situations.

DETROIT – It was about as one-sided as a game can get, territorially. Jonathan Bernier was the great equalizer for the Detroit Red Wings Saturday, stealing a point for them with a 50-save performance.
The Red Wings didn’t earn the second point, however, as Jamie Benn scored 32 seconds into overtime to lift the Dallas Stars to a 2-1 victory at Little Caesars Arena.
