Blues manager Joe Royle says that he has had no more interest in any of his players as the transfer window enters its final week. So far Jamie Clapham and Richard Logan have left while a number of players are available on free transfers.
Reserves Lose Thursday, 24th Jan 2002 09:42
Town s reserves lost 2-0 against Fulham last night. TWTD has been sent two reports, one from Dan Botten and one from Julian Marjoram. Cheers. Here s Dan s, then Julian s.
Ipswich Town Reserves went down 2-0 to Fulham in monsoon-like conditions at Woking FC.
Substitute Darren Bent spurned two excellent chances in the second half, as Ipswich looked to level up Tom Hutchinson s early strike for the
hosts.
Fulham s Stewart Noble scored the decisive second goal late on to kill off Ipswich s plucky challenge.
Both sides featured players looking to force their way into the Premiership encounter a week today at Portman Road. No-one really stood out for Ipswich although Janie Clapham had a good game at left back and Wayne Brown would have impressed any watching scouts. Fabian Wilnis,
Sven Comes to Town Wednesday, 10th Jan 2001 10:25
Sven-Goran Eriksson looks likely to visit Portman Road on Sunday for the Sky game with Leicester City on Sunday. Eriksson resigned from Lazio yesterday and is to start assessing English players immediately.
He is set to take in another Premiership game on Saturday before making a return trip to Portman Road, a ground well-known to him from the seventies. When he was an aspiring manager at IFK Gothenburg the Swede made regular trips to watch Bobby Robson s Town play and train and once even sat on the bench for a match.
The Town players Eriksson will presumably be most interested in are Richard Wright and goal-a-game striker Marcus Stewart. Last season fans were calling for James Scowcroft to get an England shout, while this year Jamie Clapham has been linked with a call-up. In the long-term Eriksson might be interested in Titus Bramble, a player becoming a regular in the U21s.
Clapham s Hard Decision Wednesday, 8th Jan 2003 18:19
Departing Town number three Jamie Clapham says it was difficult to leave Portman Road after almost five years with the Blues. Clapham agreed terms with Birmingham City today after the two clubs agreed a £1.5 million fee on Monday.
Clapham says he feels Town are on the way back: Ipswich are heading in the right direction and there is a real feeling amongst the players that the team has turned the corner, he told the club site. That is one of the reasons why it has been such a hard decision to make. Ipswich is a lovely part of the world to live in, I have a lot of friends at the club and in the area and I have really been enjoying my football.
Hermann Loan Bid Refused Wednesday, 8th Jan 2003 07:34
Town have turned down an attempt by Birmingham City to take Hermann Hreidarsson on loan. TWTD has been reporting Steve Bruce s interest in the Icelander since late November.
Yesterday the Blues accepted a fee of £1.5 million including bonuses for Jamie Clapham, a move the versatile 27-year-old is thinking over.
Despite Town s need to reduce the wage bill the move for Hreidarsson, who turned down a switch to West Brom in the summer, was rejected by Joe Royle.
Steve Bruce has had a representative at innumerable Town games over the last few months, including the away leg of the UEFA Cup tie with Slovan Liberec.
