A Guide to Seattle s Record Stores

Since the longtime Bop Street Records closed, Ballard’s main drags have only one record store. Luckily, it’s one of the best in the city. At Sonic Boom you’ll find a big catalogue—both deep and ranging—along with excellent in-store concerts (when such things are allowed). This little shop lives in the back of Chocolat Vitale, which sells chocolates, coffees, and other fineries. With relatively few crates, Stumbletown manages to cram a lot of albums many vinyl buyers will seek (if they don’t own them already), like Roxy Music, the Replacements, and Wu-Tang Clan. Bonus: It smells like chocolate and coffee instead of dust.

Seattle s Best New Restaurants, Continued Surreality Edition

Great meals forged in chaos, from finessed fine dining to a double dose of bagels. Meesha s menu draws from multiple regions of India. Restaurants have now spent a year jolting over the potholes of our pandemic dining protocols. And a small but battle-tested new guard has never known any other type of existence. Over the past six months, we welcomed some long-anticipated spots, plus others that sprang into existence as an unintended upside to last spring’s shutdown chaos. A few currently offer adapted versions of their original vision, like a gorgeous Capitol Hill wine bar that sits empty while the kitchen puts out creative lunchtime pizza. (Fear not, Seattle’s newcomer pizza game remains strong, and more varied by the day.)

10 Sweet Bakery Day Trips from Seattle

Tacoma | 40 minutes Butter may rule the pastry kingdom, where too often dry vegan offerings crumble sadly into an afterthought. Not so at Tacoma s vegan heaven, where multicolor flags snap in the wind outside the mint-green bakery, a party unto itself in an otherwise drab industrial stretch near Tacoma Mall. The place is more or less split in half, with cases on the vegan and traditional sides equally bursting and tables laden with more plastic-wrapped boxes of cookies in the middle. A rainbow of conchas—sweet bread treats with colorful clamshell tops, airy even while bearing a proud vegan sticker—matches the bakery exterior. While churros get their own dedicated rolling machine by the register, a selection of bulk cookies in flavors from pineapple jam to corn travel better.

10 Best RV Campgrounds in Washington

57 miles Come for the tidy state park camping spaces, stay for the giant old military installation to climb on. Port Townsend’s historic peninsula park is so crammed with beaches, historic houses, museums, and a boat launch it deserves a multi-day visit. The park boasts two campgrounds—a forested one and beach sites with better views—but they both book out months in advance and can be reserved up to a year ahead.  To Everything There Is a Season Though some campgrounds remain open all year, accessibility, hookups, and other amenities can vary by month. Always check online or by phone for current conditions.
